Bryan Nichols / Educator

I have taught private lessons since 1998. I am currently a jazz piano faculty at MacPhail Center for Music, and have taught jazz piano at University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, and University of Minnesota - Morris. I also can teach private lessons from my home studio in jazz piano, improvisation or just general musical concepts. I bring the viewpoint of a busy, cutting-edge, in-demand professional to my teaching, a perspective that many teachers cannot match. I am always looking for new, dedicated students, so if you're looking for a new teacher or clinician, please go to the contact page and send me a message.

I have experience coaching combos and teaching classes on theory and improvisation with both MacPhail and Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth. I also am part of the faculty for the jazz summer camps of both organizations.

I am an experienced clinician, having taught clinics and given presentations in jazz music, history, improvisation and other related subjects at numerous high schools and colleges in the Chicago area, Twin Cities Area and Iowa. In Chicago, I worked with the nonprofits Urban Gateways and MusicAlive! to bring jazz education to inner city schools. In the Twin Cities, I regularly present jazz clinics at schools through MacPhail.

If you are interested in hiring me as a private teacher, clinician, festival adjudicator, or if you are just wondering what kind of information I can share with you or your students, please go to the contact page of this website and email me.

Here's what Andrea Swensson, of 89.3 the Current, had to say about taking lessons with me.
